Michael R. Patrick, Counsel

Michael R. Patrick is Counsel with the firm. His practice focuses on the needs of businesses in the global economy through his extensive expertise in commercial transactions, counseling and litigation. Client interaction includes large multi-national corporations and small businesses, in particular, start-up businesses. Mr. Patrick has particular experience with entertainment, copyright, intellectual property and product liability, including licensing, privacy, publicity, infringement, issues related to artists, and product litigation and counseling.

Mr. Patrick has extensive experience in intellectual property, media, technology and entertainment law for businesses and individuals and has participated in numerous intellectual property infringement cases in federal court. Routinely, he counsels clients on trademark clearance and registration, product design and branding, and patent infringement. Mr. Patrick works side-by-side with the firm's marquee products liability group to provide clients with preventative counseling regarding product litigation, including risk avoidance and management issues.

Mr. Patrick also represents business and individuals in all aspects of commercial litigation, product litigation, environmental transactions and litigation, and white collar crime, including internal governance and internal investigations. Mr. Patrick has particular interest in advising start-up businesses because there is a unique need for pragmatic, careful planning to ensure future success and growth, including sensible protection of intellectual property and financial interests.

Mr. Patrick is a graduate of the University of Virginia and The George Washington University Law School. His articles have appeared in The Licensing Journal, IP Litigator, Eastern Water Law, Hartford Business Journal, Climate Change Law & Policy Reporter, and Environmental Liabilities, Enforcement and Penalties Reporter. Mr. Patrick is currently working on the first edition of A Legal and Business Guide for Start-Up and Growing Companies to be published in 2010. In addition, he serves in various capacities with Patrick LLC, Michael Media LLC, and Baby Pink, and is an emeritus member of the Board of Directors for Theater of the First Amendment in metro Washington, D.C. Mr. Patrick was formerly associated with a large Manhattan-based firm and is a member of the New York and Connecticut bars.
